Everyday Products In Your Home That Can Magically Soothe Sunburn

Summer is here! We hope you remember to slather on sunscreen before enjoying the great outdoors.

But all that time outside may cause you to suffer a nasty sunburn. It happens. And, lucky for you, there are some easy ways to soothe your skin, using products you already have in your kitchen or bathroom.

Shaving cream

The magic ingredient: Menthol

If you shave in the shower, rub some of the shaving cream on your sunburn. Its cooling menthol will soothe the burn.

Noxzema may also help, as it contains camphor and eucalyptus as well as menthol. According to dermatologist Dr. Debra Jaliman, “the menthol is soothing and the camphor is a mild pain reliever.”

The magic ingredient: Oats

The exfoliating power of oats is legendary for treating itchy skin. When your sunburn gets to that stage, an oatmeal bath works wonders.

Lifehacker recommends filling a tube sock with oatmeal and placing it in a warm bath. Soak in the water for 30 to 45 minutes, then rinse with cool water.

The magic ingredient: Lycopene

Like you needed an excuse to eat more salsa — the lycopene in your ‘maters helps reduce redness and swelling, and also improves skin’s ability to fight UV rays.

Baking soda

The magic ingredient: Bicarbonate

Much like oatmeal, baking soda reduces itching and feels soothing.
