Homemade Yogurt Can Help You Break Through Weight Loss Plateaus

At 247Health, we’ll never tell you that the “perfect” food exists, or that any one change in your diet will make the difference between health and sickness. The key is to keep an open mind, try new modalities as we learn about them, and then see how you feel.

If the body likes your decision, it will tell you in the form of positive emotion and increased energy levels. Feed it junk each day, and it will tell you how it feels about that decision, as well.

There’s no guarantee that you’ll love this fantastic homemade coconut yogurt, but we sure did. It’s a homemade concoction that comes packed with health benefits; and we think it may become a staple on your dessert tray when you hear how easy it is to make — and how good it leaves you feeling.

According to Dr. William Davis, cardiologist turned holistic health practitioner, a special Lactobacillus reuteri yogurt can dramatically improve a number of crucial health functions. The specific strain of bacteria grown in the yogurt culture has even been studied at MIT in both animals and humans, alike, to amazing results.

This coconut yogurt has some very cool side effects

The first positive side effect of the yogurt is a complete shut-down of appetite, called an anorexigenic effect. Much like pumpkin puree (which we named as the perfect food to “trick” your brain during a diet), the coconut yogurt fills you up without weighing you down. Suppressing the appetite also makes intermittent fasting easier, and helps the body break through pesky weight loss plateaus.

The second positive side effect is an increase in skin thickness and skin collagen, as well as skin regeneration and healing. In other words, researchers think it can help reverse the harsh side effects of smoking, sun damage, or pollutants. Collagen is already a highly sought-after additive to smoothies and shakes as a powder supplement; but since any micro-nutrient is almost always preferable in a natural form, why not consume your collagen in a yogurt, instead?

Thirdly (and perhaps more importantly than its weight loss potential), L. reuteri led to a doubling of oxytocin blood levels in mice, which was responsible for reduced insulin resistance, dramatic increases in testosterone in males, and increased bone density. Researchers also noticed a marked improvement in the mice’s healing potential after basic cuts and scrapes.

Of course, the results of trials in mice do not always translate perfectly to results in humans; but science has found that the biome translates fairly well between species, so the yogurt could really help a lot of folks struggling to lose weight and regain their youthful glow.

Here’s how to make Lactobacillus reuteri concoction at home

Mix everything below vigorously in a clean stainless steel or ceramic bowl, then pop it in a food dehydrator at 115 degrees for 24 hours. Refrigerate the mixture for an additional day. After the two days of prep and cooling, you should have a “jello-like” texture more so than traditional yogurt. Top with some raw honey and a few slices of strawberries for the perfect summer dessert.

  • – 2 cans coconut milk
  • – Vanilla extract or Stevia (a couple teaspoons)
  • – 4 heaping scoops quick dissolve collagen peptides
  • – 10 BioGaia Gastrus L-Reuteri probiotic capsules, ground with a mortar and pestle (this is the most important part of the recipe, make sure to get it right!)
  • – 2 scoops acacia fiber
  • – 2 scoops Vitamin C powder (don’t skimp on quality — buy something worthwhile)
  • – 1 tablespoon cane sugar
